The purpose of this RFI is to solicit feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on general issues and topics to the establishment of potential Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institutes.

AMO seeks information through this RFI to understand cross-cutting as well as specific manufacturing challenges that if addressed could provide the underlying motivation for the formation of a manufacturing innovation institute, consistent with the mission of the Department of Energy, the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office (EERE) and AMO. Department of Energy (DOE), Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Sun Shot Initiative (Sun Shot) is proud to announce the Catalyst Program.

Responses must be provided as a Microsoft Word document (or .doc) of no more than 8 pages in length, 12 point font, 1 inch margins as an attachment to an email. Catalyst is a series of contests designed to incentivize the public to address time-sensitive market problems in the solar industry.

It’s harder to come up with a course of action that I can undertake on my own that possibly, somehow could make a difference. Im a big believer that entrepreneurs will lead us out of this mess. If you execute better than others, you could possibly make money at it. Once I have done the standard agreement, I will post it here for all to see. Maybe it leads to great things, maybe it leads to nothing. Im not going to claim a minimum or maximum amount or total I will invest.

My first inclination is always to try to look “for the next big thing”. As you will see from the rules below, these are going to be businesses that are mostly driven by sweat equity. It can not be a business that generates any revenue from advertising. Because I want this to be a business where you sell something and get paid for it. Im not promising I will definitely invest anything.

Feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders is sought.

FCTO is specifically interested in information on R&D needs and priorities concerning the development of low-cost fuel cell components and pathways leading to improved fuel cell performance and durability.

AMO is particularly interested in the challenges associated with advanced manufacturing technology which might be overcome by pre-competitive collaborations conducted via a Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute.

AMO recently completed a broad RFI on this topic area.

Responses must be received no later than PM ET on 2/28/14. Responses to the RFI will be treated as informational only and will not be viewed as a binding commitment for the respondent to develop or pursue the project or ideas discussed.

The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) seeks information on mid-Technology Readiness Level (TRL) research and development (R&D) needs, market challenges, supply chain challenges and shared facility needs in addressing advanced manufacturing development challenges impacting clean energy manufacturing.

Each response document should be no more than 2 pages in length, 12-point font, and 1-inch margins. Responses to the RFI will be treated as informational only and will not be viewed as a binding commitment for the respondent to develop or pursue the project or ideas discussed.
